With the drama-filled lottery coming to an end, we officially have our 2024 NBA Draft order. Of course, subject to a flurry of trades that are synonymous with draft night at this point.
Before I begin, I first want to call each of my readers to a minute of silence for the Detroit Pistons, after having a devastatingly bad record for the second successive season (which just so happened to be the worst in the league), and falling from the top odds, all the way down to the fifth pick for the second time in two years.
That is rough…
THE LOTTERY (1-14)
1- Atlanta Hawks
ALEXANDRE SARR
Position: PF
Age: 19
Height: 7’1”
Weight: 217
From: Perth Wildcats (NBL)
19.2 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.9 SPG, 3.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jaren Jackson Jr.
Analysis: A perfect combination of idealistic modern NBA archetypes is about to take the league by storm. Trae Young, Jalen Johnson and Alex Sarr could very well be the most young formidable trio in the NBA. Pair that with the haul they will likely get for Dejounte Murray and the Hawks went from one of the most directionless, mediocre teams in the NBA to having one of the most exciting futures in basketball; all in the space of a 10 minute drama-filled stream.
Sarr and Johnson are the perfect players to play alongside Trae Young, each with elite length, defensive IQ and inside-out stop-ability. Should Sarr develop the outside shot they could very well be a top-five team on both ends of the floor.
2- Washington Wizards
NIKOLA TOPIC
Position: PG
Age: 18
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 201 lbs
From: KK Mega Basket (Serbia)
19.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 7.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Josh Giddey
Analysis: The Wizards just seem lost out there. Believe me, I am a massive believer in Bilal Coulibaly; however he is a complimentary piece, not the main show. So is Topic going to provide the star power they need? Maybe. Probably not. Topic has the ceiling of an All-NBA player if he can put it all together, and sure, that’s cool, but it’s not why the Wizards should take him.
They need someone to organise the team on the offensive side of the ball, and none may be more adept to that role in this class than Topic. He can control the game, see moves and passes that you didn’t even were there. If he can develop the pull-up jumper and create additional gravity towards him as a scorer than Topic could be a long-term building block for the Wizards.
3- Houston Rockets
REED SHEPPARD
Position: PG/SG
Age: 19
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 197 lbs
From: Kentucky
15.5 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 5.6 APG, 3.1 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Devin Booker
Analysis: Honestly, I see them trading this pick. The Rockets seem to be pretty well-set at every position, with arguably a slight defeciency at the backup two. Obviously the best fit for their franchise would be Zach Edey, however I just can’t justify taking Edey in the top three, so I pivoted.
Sheppard is a solid player who should carve out a solid, ten-ish year career as a high-impact role player. As one of the best shooters in recent draft memory shooting an astounding 55% from beyond the arc, Sheppard is an elite floor spacer with solid secondary playmaking abilities. He can also rebound very well for his position, and he isn’t a great defender but he can rack up a number of steals by pressing up on the ball handler and getting into passing lanes. In a nutshell, Sheppard in the perfect complimentary, do-it-all role player.
4- San Antonio Spurs
STEPHON CASTLE
Position: PG/SG
Age: 19
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 190 lbs
From: UConn
14.6 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 4.0 APG, 2.3 SPG, 1.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Markelle Fultz
Analysis: Castle appears to be one of the best perimeter defenders in the class. He has the capability to run the point, right through to the three. He can work well as a secondary playmaker and if his shot can develop he could be one of the most valuable point guards in the NBA.
But the selling point for me? I’m not exactly convinced on the rumours of the Spurs trading for a Trae Young, or a Dejounte Murray, or even drafting Robert Dillingham. That is because the franchise has one of the greatest defensive prospects in NBA history, and it would be cruel to not capitalise that and find someone who can hold his own on the perimeter while Wembenyama holds down the inside.
5- Detroit Pistons
MATAS BUZELIS
Position: SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 195 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
16.4 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, 1.1 SPG, 2.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Franz Wagner
Analysis: Shooting. It’s a crucial aspect of the modern game. And the Pistons? They just don’t got it. There is not one core piece on that roster that is a posotive floor spacer. Buzelis provides that better than any other wing at the top end of this class. He would also slot in well next to their core of Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren as a secondary creator and play initiator from the wing spot.
6- Charlotte Hornets
CODY WILLIAMS
Position: SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 195 lbs
From: Colorado
15.0 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jabari Smith Jr
Analysis: Cody Williams is potentially the most valuable player in this draft. What I mean by that is that if anyone in this class was going to have a very high impact on winning, it would be Williams.
Williams has found the most success when at attacking the rim in transition, off the catch, and on ball screens. While he lacks the most advanced handle, he picks his spots with timely bursts and pace adjustments. His shot is solid, which will allow the Hornets to add some much-needed floor spacing, on and off the ball.
Despite a small sample size (12 out of 23), Williams was accurate in catch-and-shoot circumstances. All but one of his twelve threes were shot from a spot or off-screen position.
Williams is also a strong inside-out defender, with the capability to both guard the perimeter and block/effect shots in the high-to-low post, showcasing his great defensive skills and mobility. Every NBA team wants a player with his combination of positional size, length, foot quickness, and effort to grow into a valuable wing defender alongside Brandon Miller.
7- Portland Trailblazers
ZACCHARIE RISACHER
Position: SF/SG
Age: 18
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 204 lbs
From: JL Bourg (France)
17.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.6 SPG, 0.6 BPG
Pro Comparison: Franz Wagner
Analysis: This is a simple question of depth. The Trailblazers have an overabundance of young guard prospects, and a pretty penny already dedicated to a center core of DeAndre Ayton and Robert Williams III. That leaves just the wing, which is currently manned by Jerami Grant, who could well be on the move after this offseason.
The Trailblazers have three very ball-dominant guards in Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons, which means ideally they should target more of a complimentary, off-ball three-and-defence prospect. That is Risacher to a tee. A lineup of Henderson, Simons, Sharpe, Risacher, and Ayton would definitely be something to watch long-term.
8- San Antonio Spurs
TIDJANE SALAUN
Position: SF
Age: 18
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 203 lbs
From: Cholet Basket (France)
15.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.2 APG, 2.0 SPG, 0.9 BPG
Pro Comparison: Obi Toppin
Analysis: With the guard position already addressed, the Spurs should target a prospect with an All-Star ceiling, however raw, to form the perfect three-headed monster of Castle, x player, and Wembenyama.
Salaun is one of the most exciting (and raw) prospects in this class. his creativity upside is what distinguishes him from other prospects of his stature. He has shown significant progress as a self-creator over the last several years, which speaks to what his potential may be at the next level. He hasn't been playing organised basketball as long as many of the other players in this draft class, so he may only just be starting to scratch the surface of his potential. Keeping this in mind, his natural feel is excellent.
9- Memphis Grizzlies
DONOVAN CLINGAN
Position: C
Age: 20
Height: 7’0”
Weight: 248 lbs
From: UConn
21.1 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 2.5 APG, 0.9 SPG, 4.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Walker Kessler
Analysis: The perfect scenario for the Grizzlies, as they get a guy they would have taken with the first pick should they have it. Clingan is the perfect player to slot alongside a lineup of Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, GG Jackson and Jaren Jackson.
Clingan is as close to a sure thing as you can get in this class. He is a dominant low-post defender, an elite rebounder with the capability to be a solid tertiary creator of ball screens and handoffs. He compliments his hypothetical frontcourt partner Jaren Jackson perfectly, with each compensating for the others weaknesses.
10- Utah Jazz
JUSTIN EDWARDS
Position: SF/SG
Age: 19
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 180 lbs
From: Kentucky
14.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.4 BPG
Pro Comparison: Brandon Miller
Analysis: With the point guard spot decided in last years draft with the acquisition of the immensely-talented Keyonte George, the center set with one of the leagues brightest young big’s Walker Kessler, and with the Jazz seemingly unwilling to give up Lauri Markannen, the starting lineup lacks two things: reliable shooting and off-ball creation. Justin Edwards is the perfect piece to fill those needs. On top of that, he provides great athleticism and a lengthy body on defence, with the ability to defend inside and out should he fill out his frame.
11- Chicago Bulls
RON HOLLAND
Position: SF/PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 200 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
22.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 3.3 APG, 2.6 SPG, 1.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jonathan Kuminga
Analysis: The Bulls really need a homerun. They appear directionless and are seemingly preparing to build around a 35-year-old Demar Derozan. Oof.
Holland has the most All-Star capability of anyone in this class. He is a hyper-athletic, lengthy wing with a fair amount of weight behind him. His handle and jump shot aren’t strong suits as of now, but they appear to be on the rise. Should he put it all together, the Bulls would have two young All-Star calibre players to build around in Coby White and Holland. And suddenly they would have a direction.
12- Oklahoma City Thunder
ZACH EDEY
Position: C
Age: 21
Height: 7’4.25”
Weight: 306 lbs
From: Purdue
28.1 PPG, 13.8 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.3 SPG, 3.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Enes Freedom
Analysis: The Thunder have spent the second round of the playoffs thus far regretting the lack of action towards their main deficiency; their rebounding. Do I need to explain how important closing out a possession is?
While Edey definitely comes with his issues, at a resounding 7’3”, 306 lbs, he is the perfect solution to the Thunders offensive rebounding problem. On top of that, his $3.9 million rookie scale deal adds to their plethora of great value contracts off the bench.
13- Sacramento Kings
ROBERT DILLINGHAM
Position: PG
Age: 18
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 176 lbs
From: Kentucky
23.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 6.0 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Brandon Jennings
Analysis: Just by judging the vibe of his exit interviews, it feels as if Malik Monk will not be in purple next season. Dillingham may not have the same electricity, nor the athleticism that swings games, but he will be a reliable creator off the bench for the Kings to swing the momentum of games.
14- Portland Trailblazers
TYLER SMITH
Position: PF/SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 224 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
22.4 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.5 BPG
Pro Comparison: Cedi Osman
Analysis: The Trailblazers lack depth, specifically at the three/four position. Smith would come in as a primary backup with potential to eveolve into a long-term core role player. He is the ideal big/wing of the modern era, owing to his exceptional floor spacing abilities, defensive versatility, ability to guard the rim, and the capacity to play off the ball. It's possible that the G-League Ignite product could turn out to be the most valued player in the draft.
FIRST ROUND (15-30)
15- Miami Heat
ISAIAH COLLIER
Position: PG
Age: 19
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205 lbs
From: USC
19.6 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.9 SPG, 0.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Jalen Suggs
Analysis: The Miami Heat have been searching for a reliable, shot-creating point guard for years it feels like. And as of the trade deadline they got one, acquiring Terry Rozier from the Hornets. However, Rozier is yet to play a game this Playoffs due to injury. They need a backup, a ‘plan B’.
Collier is that. While he isn’t the shooter Rozier is, he is arguably a better playmaker. His shot is on a solid trajectory and he is an underrated on-ball defender. He would fit in seamlessly with the Heat.
16- Orlando Magic
JA’KOBE WALTER
Position: SG/SF
Age: 19
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 180 lbs
From: Baylor
16.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Analysis: The Magic are another young team on the rise, with just one major problem holding them back; shooting.
The fifth-youngest roster in the NBA had a fantastic season, reaching the five seed. They set an all-important identity for themselves, with one of the best defences in the NBA. If they can add someone to space the floor, patiently move off the ball and benefit from the strong playmakers on the team, I don’t see why they can’t aim for a top-three seed next season.
Ja’Kobe Walter fits that to a tee. He has the ability to play either wing position effectively, whilst having the IQ to fit into any offense seamlessly.
17- Toronto Raptors
JUAN NUNEZ
Position: PG
Age: 19
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 190 lbs
From: Ratiopharm Ulm (Spain)
16.4 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 8.9 APG, 2.6 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Lonzo Ball
Analysis: This largely comes down to the fact that I just don’t trust Immanuel Quickley as my starting point guard long-term. I believe he is an elite sixth man, as he proved extensively in New York, but I just haven’t screamed anything that suggest he is a core piece to this roster.
Juan Nunez is the fourth ranked player on my board. He has legitimate All-Star, All-NBA potential and his ability to control and direct the game is second to none in this class. Having a player like Nunez would allow the Raptors to capitalise on one of the stronger offensive coaching schemes in the league, which they have failed to do so far.
18- New Orleans Pelicans
JARED MCCAIN
Position: PG
Age: 19
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 197 lbs
From: Duke
16.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.5 APG, 2.2 SPG, 0.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Seth Curry
Analysis: After being swept by the Thunder, and C.J. McCollum getting closer and closer to the aged care facility, the Pelicans need to look for the next long-term backcourt pieces. A combination of Jared McCain and Dyson Daniels would be perfect.
The elite shooting of McCain, paired with the perimeter defensive prowess of Daniels will make for an exciting backcourt duo. Considering that Brandon Ingram will likely be out the door after this season, Trey Murphy only adds to the versatility of the pair by stretching the defence out. This will also make it easier for them to create shots for superstar Zion Williamson.
19- Philadelphia 76ers
DEVIN CARTER
Position: PG/SG
Age: 22
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 188 lbs
From: Providence
22.3 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 4.1 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Derrick White
Analysis: While I enjoyed Cameron Payne’s intensity in the 76ers recent Playoff run, the 76ers need to improve the backup point guard position if they are serious about contending.
Carter is the perfect option for that. he gives the feel of a veteran player who can get to his spots with ease, as well as making sure others can hit theirs.
20- Cleveland Cavaliers
RYAN DUNN
Position: SF
Age: 21
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 216 lbs
From: Virginia
11.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 1.1 APG, 3.1 SPG, 3.1 BPG
Pro Comparison: Trey Murphy III
Analysis: No prospect may be as confusing as Ryan Dunn. He is arguably one of the best defenders on the planet already, but his offensive game is non-existent.
Luckily for him, the Cavaliers don’t need offense. With the dominant backcourt duo of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, paired with the developing shot of Evan Mobley and the post touch of Jarret Allen, they have that in abundance.
Dunn would slot in perfectly to that backup wing position they have been trying to fill for the last two seasons.

21- New Orleans Pelicans
KEL’EL WARE
Position: C
Age: 19
Height: 7’0
Weight: 223 lbs
From: Indiana
17.4 PPG, 10.9 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.8 BPG
Pro Comparison: Tyson Chandler
Analysis: With Jonas Valanciunas only getting older, the Pelicans have no legitimate long-term options at the five. Luckily, Kel’el Ware is the perfect eventual replacement for the Pelicans.
Ware is a raw prospect, and will likely take a couple of years to become a legitimate starting center in the NBA… which just so happens to perfectly coincide with Valanciunas’ nearing 401k plans.
22- Milwaukee Bucks
TERRENCE SHANNON JR.
Position: SG
Age: 23
Height: 6’6.5”
Weight: 225 lbs
From: Illinois
24.4 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Hamidou Diallo
Analysis: The Bucks are looking to compete. Now.
There may be no prospect more ready to make an instant impact than Terrence Shannon. Shannon possesses exceptional finishing abilities due to his power, agility, and coordination. Aside from generating open angles for himself at the basket, he averaged 8.8 free-throw attempts per game, demonstrating how difficult he was to stop at the rim without fouling.
23- Phoenix Suns
KYLE FILIPOWSKI
Position: C/PF
Age: 20
Height: 7’0”
Weight: 248 lbs
From: Duke
19.9 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.0 SPG, 2.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Mark Williams
Analysis: Other than the underlying issues with their offense, the Suns have another problem they need to solve; the backup big position.
Kyle Filiposki is a ready-made NBA body, who can stretch the floor for the Suns big-three. He is also an elite passer, and the Suns could definitely benefit by running some actions through him.
24- New York Knicks
GRANT NELSON
Position: PF
Age: 22
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 230 lbs
From: Alabama
18.5 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.0 SPG, 2.5 BPG
Pro Comparison: Santi Aldama
Analysis: One of the biggest risers from March Madness, Nelson is a stereotypical New York Knick who is ready to contribute to an NBA rotation at this moment.
He may have the highest ceiling of any senior in this class. If Nelson can put it together, he could be a lot more than just a complimentary piece in the NBA. Nelson is a tall, springy athlete who specialises at facing up and driving to the basket. He is excellent in the open court and has strong handling for a 6-foot-11 athlete. To maximise his worth at the next level, he will need to improve his outside shooting ability.
25- New York Knicks
DALTON KNECHT
Position: SF
Age: 22
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 213 lbs
From: Tennessee
20.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.8 BPG
Pro Comparison: Bruce Brown
Analysis: The second of their back-to-back first round selections, Knecht will be another in a plethora of prototypical modern NBA wings in the Knicks rotation.
Knecht excels at running off screens and shooting from all over the court. He can make difficult shots with a hand right in his face. He has shot more over 38 percent for the past two years. Knecht is a real three-level scorer.
26- Washington Wizards
IZAN ALMANSA
Position: PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 216 lbs
From: G-League Ignite
14.2 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 2.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Alperen Sengun
Analysis: Almansa began the season as a top-ten prospect in my books. Here, the Wizards take a flier on a high-ceiling prospect who may have just had a poor run at things in the G-League Ignite program.
The 6-foot-10 giant can finish with force, but he is more renowned for his touch. The touch, whether it's right around the rim or 10 feet out from the hoop, is unusual for a prospect his height and age. When the defence allows him to shoot floaters and runners, Almansa scores a lot. He also doesn't mind placing the ball on the deck to make his own shot, using a variety of jabs and spins along the route.
27- Minnesota Timberwolves
KEVIN MCCULLAR
Position: SG
Age: 23
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 210 lbs
From: Kansas
19.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.4 BPG
Pro Comparison: Kenrich Williams
Analysis: The Timberwolves are coming off the back of a massive resurgence this season. They need to continue adding pieces around the edges, and this does just that.
McCullar is an excellent defender, despite his tendency to foul excessively. That side of the ball will be the key reason for his draft chances. In fact, he is one of the finest perimeter defenders in the draft, and his skills will undoubtedly translate to the NBA. The 6-foot-6 prospect is an excellent disruptor of offences and possesses the defensive skills to guard positions one through four. He possesses fast hands and excellent hand-eye coordination, and he has demonstrated some secondary playmaking talents, which are crucial for an off-ball wing player.
28- Denver Nuggets
KWAME EVANS JR.
Position: PF
Age: 19
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 205 lbs
From: Oregon
12.9 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, 2.7 SPG, 2.0 BPG
Pro Comparison: Josh Jackson
Analysis: The reigning NBA champions are another case of just needing more talent to continue their dominance.
Evans is a savvy defender who understands where he fits in with the team. He has excellent rotational movement, can slide his feet with ease, and can swat jumpers at the rim. On offence, he is completely unselfish, which makes him all the more perfect for an established team like the Nuggets.
29- Utah Jazz
CARLTON CARRINGTON
Position: PG/SG
Age: 18
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 190 lbs
From: Pittsburgh
14.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 4.6 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG
Pro Comparison: Cade Cunningham
Analysis: While the Jazz have already got their point guard of the future more-or-less decided, the fact is they are still a young, unestablished team who should swing for the fences when it comes to young talent.
Carrington is an interesting point guard prospect with good height for the position, a long and wiry 6-5 physique, and a strong offensive game. Despite his lack of a searing first step, he is a good shot creator who can shake loose for his jump shots.
30- Boston Celtics
ADAY MARA
Position: C
Age: 18
Height: 7’3”
Weight: 245 lbs
From: UCLA
11.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.6 APG, 0.5 SPG, 2.3 BPG
Pro Comparison: Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Analysis: With Al Horford on the wrong side of 35, the Celtics need to look beyond this season when it comes to their frontcourt.
Mara produces a level of gravity anytime he's at the dunker position, putting interior defenders at a disadvantage every time there's dribble penetration: if they don't help off the 7-footer, they give up an open layup, but if they do, Mara will just finish over them with a tremendous dunk.
