Heating Up in Tempe: Joson Sanon & Jayden Quaintance First Impressions
After several middling years in the Pac-12, Arizona State freshmen Joson Sanon and Jayden Quaintance have a chance to put the Sun Devils’ program back on the map in their inaugural Big 12 season.
Arizona State athletics in general have had their fair share of hurdles over the past several seasons, and the Sun Devils’ men’s basketball program is no exception. Since Head Coach Bobby Hurley took command of the ship in 2015, the team has ended the school year with a winning record in only four of nine total seasons and has never won their conference, coming the closest in the 2018-2019 season. But that team was led by the standout freshman and current Oklahoma City Thunder wing Lu Dort. Outside of Dort, Josh Christopher is the only active NBA player to be formerly coached by Hurley in that same span. Moreover, former Arizona State Athletic Director Ray Anderson stepped down from his position just over a year ago in November 2023, which was then filled by Graham Rossini only six months ago.
