Jared McCain Scouting Report
This past season, Jared McCain was an invaluable member of a competitive Duke team. He can be a floor spacer early in his NBA career, but he is also a skilled on-ball player with the ability to shoot from beyond the arc. As a result, there's an easy method to get started right away for whatever franchise invests in his talents.
McCain has a high IQ, a fluid jumper- with outstanding mechanics and rapid release- that make him a serious threat from beyond the arc. He has the capacity to create from midrange in addition to his worth as a spot-up shooter. If given the opportunity, the Duke guard could be a valuable three-level scorer as a rookie.
McCain is unquestionably far more of a scorer than a facilitator. Because of this, despite only being 6-foot-3, he should project to be an off-ball guard rather than a lead at the next level. Since he has thus far mostly been a volume scorer, his success at the NBA level may depend on how many shots he can get per game.
Despite his modest stature, he has defensive upside and can have an effect on both sides of the ball. McCain is a passionate, high-energy player who is prepared to take on whatever role necessary to help his team win. In addition, his strong build and strength enable him to play larger than his actual size.
The former five-star recruit is regarded as one of his class's best guard prospects and has had success outside of the traditional high school and college game. He was an important member of the USA U18 National Team, which won the gold medal in Mexico.
