Kylan Boswell has lacked a consistent role throughout the first three seasons of his college career, but could the former five-star recruit emerge as an elite lead guard next year?
When evaluating potential NBA talent, fans and evaluators alike often lose sight of the development process in its entirety. We zone in on prospects who’ll be selected in the upcoming draft and throw players to the wayside who may not become a real prospect until the following year(s). Today I want to cover Illinois’ Kylan Boswell, who I do not think has what it takes to make an NBA leap as of today, but who has shown enough intriguing flashes for me to believe in his long-term development. He’s an elite perimeter defender who’s liable to have an offensive explosion on any given night, but who has struggled to maintain efficient offensive production throughout his college career. I expect him to be thrust into a bigger role for the Fighting Illini next season, and if that’s the case, we will then be able to better determine if Boswell has an NBA career in his future.
